Frequently Asked Questions About Sex Therapy
What Should I Expect in a Sex Therapy Session?
Sex therapy is conducted through conversation, either online or in-person. Sometimes just a few sessions can bring about noticeable changes, while in other cases, longer-term support may be beneficial. Together, we’ll regularly reflect on what works well for you and what you need.
How Much Does Sex Therapy Cost?
Sex therapy with me is a private service, and health insurance typically does not cover the costs. You can find a transparent breakdown of fees under the Appointment Booking section. In rare cases, certified psychotherapists who have completed additional training in sex therapy may have their services covered by insurance.
Does Sex Therapy Involve Just Me or My Partner as Well?
Both options are possible and both can be beneficial. You’re free to choose what feels most comfortable for you. If you’d like my input, feel free to reach out.
What if My Partner Doesn’t Want to Attend Sex Therapy?
Even if only you are willing to attend sex therapy, it can still bring about positive changes in your relationship.
Is Sex Therapy as a Single Person Worth It?
Absolutely. As a single person, you have the opportunity to explore your concerns at your own pace, free from external pressures.
Where Does Sex Therapy Take Place?
You can have your session online or in person. The process and content remain exactly the same.
I Feel Embarrassed About My Issue!
That’s completely understandable. In our society, we often don’t talk openly about personal sexual concerns. Unfortunately, media can contribute to unrealistic or misleading perceptions. Many of my clients find that these feelings of embarrassment quickly fade and that it feels liberating to finally talk about it.
What’s the Difference Between Sex Counselling and Sex Therapy?
Sex counselling is a solution-focused approach that addresses specific sexual concerns or questions, often by providing education and practical advice. It is usually short-term and aims to enhance sexual well-being.
Sex therapy, on the other hand, delves deeper into the emotional or relational causes of sexual difficulties. It is a more intensive, longer-term therapeutic process that also explores underlying patterns or unresolved conflicts.
What’s the Difference Between Sex Therapy and Psychotherapy?
Sex therapy focuses specifically on sexual concerns, working to improve sexual well-being. It addresses issues such as lack of desire and communication problems within a relationship.
Psychotherapy, by contrast, deals with a wide range of mental and emotional challenges—such as anxiety, depression, or trauma—and aims to enhance overall mental health. I do not provide psychotherapy, and I do not offer diagnoses or treatment for medical conditions.
When Is the Right Time for Sex Therapy?
The right time is when you feel you’re not making progress on your own, need support, or simply feel ready to talk about your concerns.
Can Sex Therapy Help With a Lack of Intimacy?
Sex therapy can help restore intimacy and closeness in your relationship.
Is It Helpful to Combine Sex Therapy With Couples Therapy?
Sex therapy can be a valuable addition to couples or individual therapy, helping to address sexual challenges and overcome obstacles.
Are you interested in systemic counselling or therapy to gain ease in relationships and intimacy – and to integrate mindfulness into your life?
